Baked potatoes

Baked potatoes are a classic comfort food—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and endlessly customizable. Whether served as a simple side or loaded with toppings for a full meal, they’re easy to make and always satisfying. Perfect for busy nights or special gatherings, this versatile dish is a must-know recipe for any home cook!

Ingredients:

  • Potatoes (russet or baking potatoes work best)
  • Olive oil or melted butter
  • Salt
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, shredded cheese, chopped chives, bacon bits, etc.

Instructions:

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Prepare Potatoes: Wash the potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Poke Potatoes: Use a fork to poke several holes around each potato. This allows steam to escape while they bake and prevents them from bursting.
  • Coat Potatoes: Rub each potato with olive oil or melted butter. This helps to crisp up the skin as it bakes. Sprinkle salt generously over each potato.
  • Bake Potatoes: Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
  • Check for Doneness: You can check if the potatoes are done by gently squeezing them. They should give slightly when pressed.
  • Serve: Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before handling. Slice each potato open lengthwise and fluff the insides with a fork. Add your favorite toppings such as sour cream, shredded cheese, chopped chives, bacon bits, or any other toppings you prefer.
  • Enjoy: Serve the baked potatoes hot as a side dish or as a main course with your favorite accompaniments.

Baked potatoes are incredibly versatile, so feel free to get creative with your toppings and seasonings to suit your taste preferences!
